How Test E9x E90 E91 E92 E93 Pre-LCI Halogen Headlights Outside of the Car

If you're living in an area where access to your car isn't easy but would like to test your headlights function here is a guide.

Supplies Needed:

• Power Supply
• 14 Gauge or larger wiring

Step 1. Get a 12 V Constant Power Supply.

I bought a "70W Constant Power Supply" off amazon for $30 (Second picture below), this was the cheapest I could find. I went with a small "30W Universal AC/DC Adapter Switching Power Supply" at first (first picture below) which wasn't able to power anything due to the power not being constant and power output being quite low.

Note: The halogen bulb on the E9x uses an 55W H7 which runs at 12 volts and draws 4.58 amps.




Step 2. Identify the wiring and pins.



Step 4. Connect the power supply to the headlight harness. I recommend 14 gauge wire or larger. Connect the Ground (Negative) to Pin 4 and Connect the Positive to the Pin you would like to test/turn on.
